Policy Centres

Roosevelt at Yale-NUS is composed of multiple Policy Centres which are smaller focus groups that investigate and explore specific areas of public policy research. Our current focuses include: Economic Development and Strategy; Energy, Technology & The Environment; and Human Rights & Equal Justice. Each Policy Centre is led by a student director.

Economic Development and Strategy
Centre Head: Ericka Wu Liang (’24)

The Economic Development & Strategy Policy Centre aims to provide effective policy and strategic recommendations to support Singapore’s economic transformation and secure Singapore’s long-term economic success. This year, the policy centre’s areas of interest include Singapore’s development as a global innovation and entrepreneurship hub, Singapore’s digital economy, as well as Singapore’s regional economic integration with ASEAN.
Human Rights & Equal Justice
Centre Head: Maleeka Shahla Hassan (’24)

The Human Rights & Equal Justice Policy Centre is committed to reforming policy failures that deprive any member of society of their fundamental human rights or life opportunities. Our policy proposals seek to address policy challenges faced by the most vulnerable and marginalised constituents of Singapore. This year, the centre is focusing on complex issues such as migrant worker policy, public health accommodations for the aging population, gender discrimination and education.
Energy, Technology & The Environment
Centre Head: Ethan Teo Yiteng (’22)

The Energy, Technology and Environment Policy Centre is dedicated to brainstorming, analysing, and advocating for effective policies related to recent developments in energy, technology, and the environment in Singapore. This year, the centre is exploring the urban heat island effect and its impacts on microclimates in Singapore; we explore policies, land institutions and companies in the public and private sectors, to see what is and can be done to the built environment via urban solutions to alleviate this problem.
